If you are interested in serving as a poll worker, please sign up HERE. Sign up before April 13 to attend the orientation that day to work the primary election. Information for applicants regarding this orientation will be sent to you soon.

The Floyd GOP will release more information on poll watcher recruitment soon.*

(This position is paid and, therefore, the link above asks for information related to employment – this is normal.)

See below for a detailed comparison on poll workers vs. watchers.

Poll Workers

Poll workers are individuals organized and managed by the Floyd County Board of Elections. The Elections Board pays these individuals to administer Election Day operations on behalf of the county. (These are the people who process your ID and direct you to your ballot when you vote.)

Generally, poll workers are:

  • Organized and managed by the Floyd County Board of Elections
  • Acting as official proxies of the Elections Board
  • Non-partisan when performing duties
  • Barred from campaigning when performing duties
  • Paid for their services

Poll Watchers

Poll watchers are individuals organized and managed by the Floyd County Republican and Democratic Parties. Sent by each party, these watchers observe the casting and counting of ballots in each precinct to foster a sense of confidence, openness, and transparency in the voting process.

Generally, poll watchers are:

  • Organized and managed by the Floyd GOP/Democrats
  • Acting as official proxies of their political parties
  • Partisan when performing duties
  • Barred from campaigning when performing duties
  • Not paid for their services (completely volunteer)

*Disclaimer: Poll watchers are organized by the county parties. Poll workers are managed and organized by the Floyd County Board of Elections, and the call on this page for poll workers is in no way affiliated with said Elections Board. The Floyd GOP is simply advertising this opportunity as a chance for the citizens of Floyd County to become involved in their community, and individuals interested in serving as a poll worker must go through the proper channels established by the Elections Board and adhere to all rules and processes thereof.
